I am Jerome Rugaruza, the CEO and founder of GAP. I want to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for the Australian community, a nation that is blessed to bless other nations through its generosity and compassion. I thank every Australian who stood with us during the 2020-2021 crises that were experienced in the country. First it was the long drought period, which was reported as the longest ever in the Australian history this far.
Student Tailor
I watched as a neighbor I knew transform her life while I was busy looking for odd jobs in town. She took tailoring classes at PDTS and now she owns her own tailoring shop in our neighborhood. She now has a stable income and works within her own limit. I was hoping to start classes soon but am told that I have to wait for the next class since the current one is fully booked. But all the same I look forward to it.
Refugee
My name is Emmanuel Bizimana I came to Kenya after fleeing from my country Congo some years back. It was very hard for me to pay house rent and cater for my family expenses. I was lucky to meet GAP and my life has never been the same again. They gave me the startup capital and I began a maize flour business that I import from Uganda and sell at a wholesale price here in Nairobi, Kenya. Since then I have become financially independent and can comfortably take care of family needs”.
Refugee
My name is Bahivi Alexis, a Congolese refuge. I came to Kenya in January 2016, with a family of 7 people and with no source of income. I started hawking water melons in a bucket for a period of two years so as to sustain my large family. Later I moved to hawking Vitenges (African Ankara Materials) upcountry and this was not easier either.
Refugee
My name is Richard Bizimana Mushoshi. I am a Congolese refuge living in Kenya. I am a barber and am so grateful to GAP for their contribution towards the change in my livelihood. They have given me a job and now I have a stable source of income to support my family
